Expansion receives board approval

On June 5, 2006, the Mount Royal Board of Governors passed three motions that allow the Students' Association to expand the Wyckham House Student Centre.

The plan is to build a 35,000 square foot addition to the current building, and to renovate and redesign another 15,000 square feet in the existing building. The combinatino of this renovation and exapnsion will provide students with much needed space for both co-curricular and social activities that complement and enhance their academic work.

The focus of the new building will be on student services. The design for the new building was created with students in mind. We envisioned a space where students could access the many services we offer, enjoy social activities, meet and hangout with their peers, watch live shows, dance to club beats, enjoy a variety of food choices, volunteer and govern their peers.

The new building design has incorporated a variety of sustainable initiatives to make it environmentally friendly. The architecture of the expansion is also respectful of both the original Wyckham House built in 1987 as well as the rest of the College building styles.

Just like all the students who inspired the design, the new Wyckham House will be strong, bright, forward-thinking and sustainable. We truly hope the Wyckham House Student Centre becomes a landmark on our campus and will enable the SAMRC to realize its vision of becoming "the vibrant hub of the campus community."
